i had the same problem, but got away with it by rubbing it down with wet and dry (bearing in mind that the logo was safely burried under several coats of laquer already) it then took about 40 coats of fresh laquer, but gradually the damage was eliminated. i first had to let the laquer almost dry, then with a wet finger i smoothed out the wrinkles in the vinyl. it still looked crap, but after rubbing down and then slowly applying light coats of laquer, I was amazed at the end result. and believe me i did properly cock it up, due to my own impatience. still next time it will be a peice of cake. Thanks for uou comments, glad you got the headstock soerted but it sounds to me it would have been quicker to sand off and start again, but as you have proved persiverense always wins through. Keep it up and i'm glad you like my projects, whatch out for a couple of new ones soon.
